I find it amazing how the design of a place can evolve so naturally with the seasons. And while form is necessarily second to function, it is so easy to see the aesthetic of the form follow the utility of the function.

Breakfast on a free Saturday

Wow, it's a Saturday, I'm home AND it's not snowing! Can you believe it?

Being free on a Saturday is nice. I even got the opportunity to make myself a nice looking breakfast.

The funny thing about eating your food after taking pictures of it like this is that it's cold. It doesn't taste quite as good as it could although it looks nice.

I think being a food stylist would be fun.

Vintage GE Clock

The alarm clock I bought on eBay finally arrived today!

I plugged it in and it is seriously one of the neatest things I've seen in a while. It's kind of hard to describe. The numbers are created by a light that shines through slits, and the slits are covered and uncovered mechanically it seems. I can't stop staring at it.

Now I can know what time it is when I wake up in the middle of the night.

Noticed

Sometimes I find myself looking at something I see everyday and noticing for the first time. It's a strange phenomenon to say the least. Usually it makes me want to take a picture of it, as if I'll never be able to notice that certain characteristic of that object/place again. It makes me think we're all mostly unnoticed... and it also reminds me of that other strange phenomenon when people start looking really strange when you look at them for too long.

Minimalism Re-thought

I did a total redesign of my space, and now it's very minimalistic. I guess I'd say I don't naturally tend towards this aesthetic, but I'm growing to like it immensely.

I first got rid of everything on the walls and basically stored everything in boxes and out of the way. One good thing about this arrangement is that it really prompts me to clean and keep tidy because anything that's not in it's place is immediately noticeable.

Oh, and my mom got me a new plant. It's a seven leaf schefflera. It sits next to the spider plant which I've done a fine job at not killing. Hopefully the schefflera will do just as well at not dying.

The Monsters in Your Head - Tentacle Eye Patches

So here's the scoop: new creative eyewear from j-han!

This time I've got eye patches with a twist of course. They've got these crazy tentacles busting out of them. I hand sculpted the tentacles out of polymer clay and painted them gold. Then hand cut and hand finished each eye patch from leather. I am quite proud of these little puppies.

Bubble Lens Monocles

Goodness gracious I am so bad at blogging. I mean look at this, posting about my Bubble Lens Monocles so long after they've been made. The fact is that they haven't been as popular as I thought they would be. Although at this point the two gold monocles have been sold, and now only the silver ones remain.

Oh, and modeling these monocles is the lovely Modded Minimee Head of Aoi of Gazette fame. I am by no means a fan of Gazette or of j-rock for that matter, but the head was practically a steal! And since I really needed a modeling head I couldn't pass him up.

So that's what's been up in my dollie world. Hopefully I'll be cooking up some new dollie crafts to send out into the world very soon~

Forsythia & Butterflies

What have I been up to the this last month?

Now, that is a very loaded question, isn't it?

Because the very simple answer is "nothing," but surely all those hours must have been spent doing something, neh?

I spent a good amount of time waiting for a decorative throw pillow to arrive from a rather frustrating, non-communicative etsy seller. It has, however, finally arrived. It is quite lovely. It's made from a vintage Robert Van Allen screenprinted canvas with a cute, cute forsythia design. I love it. I really do.

I currently have it set up on this folding chair that I got for fifty cents at the Unique thrift store in Falls Church. For less than a dollar this chair was a steal!

Of course I've been working on some decorative projects around the house. I made myself a paper cutout butterfly mobile to hand under one of my hall lamps. It's a nice whimsical touch to my basement abode. It was largely inspired by that classic Pottery Barn Kid's butterfly mobile.

Oh, I also made a little ruffle shade out of some scrap fabric and some rubberbands for my other ceiling lamp, but I couldn't get a good picture of it with my cellphone camera, which is what I've had to resort to recently.

Maybe if I feel like it I'll get some more interesting stuff on this blog. Only if I feel like it, which happens to be my motto as of late.

Blue Chair Love

I absolutely love folding chairs. I have this near obsession with them, and I got these two metal folding chairs for under $5 last summer at a junk yard down in Surry, VA. They're actually not the same chair, but I painted them both this gorgeous blue so they work as a pair. Now I'm using them as nightstands for my bed. They add a nice pop of color to my room.

the Summer Romper cont.

It's been several months since my last post. I haven't been dilly-dallying, but I've just been neglecting to blog. Shall we say I'm not the most diligent blogger.

Anyway, back to those rompers!

I have always been a fan of eBay as far as finding those specific vintage goodies; especially because thrift stores and whatnots in this area are very lacking to say the least. Not to mention I'm not as hardcore as I could be when it comes to thrifting. So thanks to the wonderful eBay the first to rompers I show you today found their way into my life and closet.

So, this first find just tickled my fancy and I decided I had to own it. The yellow with the contrasting black and tie-dye nonetheless! Plus the magenta and purple accents. How 80s fantastic! I styled my outfit much in the same manner that the model did, but I can't help but wonder if I'd be able to pull it off much better if I were a bleach-blond.

Again from eBay. The looseness of this one got me. Plus, I have to admit the model wearing this one is quite exquisitely styled not to mention tall and lean, which I am unfortunately not.

Lastly, I've got this nice denim piece which happens to be one owned and worn by my very own mother. I remember she tried to make me wear it a few years ago, but I just wasn't feeling it then. But now I think it's something I'm willing to do.

So thus ends my quest to find a summer romper. I'm not sure if any of these are quite summery enough to count as a "summer romper," but in any case I'm done with the rompers I've moved onto other vintage must haves. However, that's for another post, another time.

Our Ghetto Apt

So I always say to myself that I'll take more photographs, but I never really get around to it for one reason or another. But a while back I actually took some pictures of our college apartment, and I didn't realize how ghetto it was until I saw it in the photos. What do you expect? It is a college apartment. We're poor and don't give a shit about a place we know we'll end up abandoning.

Fantasy Goggles

I finished up making the masquerade-ish goggles that I've had in mind for a while. They're more appropriately titled "Fantasy Goggles". There were supposed to be 3 originally, but I ran out of ribbon on my 2nd goggle so it's only a 2 pair collection: the Phoenix and the Unicorn.

They're both pretty elaborate. I feel like this goggle collection is more art than functionality. I fussed quite a while before I got them the way I liked on my model. I modeled them on my feminine Kamen, and he looks so gorgeous.

I need to get more product pictures, but just my luck my camera's battery ran out. It's charging right now... I figure I'll just display them here for now and post them on DoA in the middle of the week sometime.

I just can't keep my hands off of Kamen!

He's been modded more and now he looks really feminine. Although, I attribute a lot of that to the current faceup.

I did some major work on him. I sanded his nose more and thinned the bridge plenty. I also reshaped the mouth and gave him teeth. Oh, how those teeth kill me. Gosh they're so cute! I think I love him more and more... even though he's just a floating head. That may even be his charm. I love that he can look however he wants and I don't feel guilty about it. Not like fixed characters where when something is off it's just not good enough.

He's wearing the long black wig now and sitting on my desk on his Batchix bust. He looks absolutely gorgeous. Very lovely. I might hold onto him a bit longer although I could use the cash in reshelling SungWoon and bringing home Wooju. How I'd love that.

I feel that my heart has left my DIM Achernar. It now resides with the two Dollmore kids, Pado & Cecile. Oh how I wish for them to be with me now. My mother, who insists on calling my Achernar my "boyfriend" says she feels sad to have to see him go. She asks me why I have to "break up" with him -_-;;; I guess some relationships aren't forever. My father tells me I should buy a dog if I want to go waste my money -_-;;;; Although I'd love a dog I don't have enough time to be taking care of another LIVING thing. I just told him that dogs poop too much, which is also true - compared to dolls, that is^^

In other news, my Bobobie Erin, Lola has finally found a new home. I'm sure she'll love it as she will be a first doll. First dolls get a lot of attention... at least at the beginning ^^;;; *thinks of Achernar.

In any case, I'm ready for some change in my BJD hobby-oriented lifestyle!
