The Stuff of Nightmares

I've been looking through all the fall 2009 ready-to-wear runway shows again. I'm looking for inspiration for my own fall wardrobe, since the weather really has taken a turn.

Of course this led me to re-examine Alexander McQueen's f09rtw collection. The first time I saw it I seriously could NOT focus on the clothes. The makeup he had on those girls was seriously the stuff of nightmares.

It is the freakiest thing I have ever seen.

I don't know if I'm the only one who has this sort of extreme reaction to that face, but I can't take it. I couldn't take it the first time I laid eyes on his runway show back in March, and I still can't seem to sit through all 46 looks in his collection. I am just about ready to run for the hills.

I was always a gut thing. That instantaneous feeling of repulsion. The terror!

I never really thought about WHY until recently...
1. Obviously, those lips painted beyond the limits of normal lips are freaky. They're like a clown's lips, but that doesn't really explain the intrinsically freakish nature of lips beyond lips...
2. Anyway, in conjunction with the lips the no-eyebrows thing is scary. I don't really mind the no-brow look on a normal face. The no-brow has been popular recently in fashion circles. It does give a person a more androgynous and alien-like feel, which I suppose is fashionable. It's unnerving, but not really scary like this is scary.
3. Of course, to pull the look together the super white face. No, no, no!

While I was thinking about all these things another face popped into my head.

The Face of Evil.

Why do those McQueen girls look so freaky? Because it's the Face of Evil!
That's all the explanation I need.

And in Mr. Alexander McQueen's defense...
That dress... makes my heart palpitate. (In a good way.)
